We are thrilled to announce our latest partnership with St John’s Winchester, which will see their Moorside premises, a former care home, transform into affordable accommodation for local key workers and young professionals, located just a 5-minute walk from Winchester train station.

With a genuine shortage of affordable properties in Winchester this 41-unit property, which would otherwise be vacant, will provide some much-needed affordable living to key workers and young professionals in the area. It also has excellent transport connections with direct trains to central London, Southampton and Portsmouth.

Tim Lowe, Founder & Director of The LOWE Group, says “We are thrilled to have partnered with St John’s to open a much-needed affordable housing option in the heart of Winchester. We believe guardianship offers a unique opportunity to provide affordable housing with social impact, and with our shared values to build community spirit, partnering with St John’s was an obvious choice.”

LOWE ensures buildings which are currently going through the planning process can still be put to good use. Tim continues, “Guardianship offers a unique opportunity to provide affordable housing with social impact; we always prioritise key workers within our properties and we’re excited to share this scheme with the Winchester community.”

Clive Cook, St John’s Chief Executive, commented: “We are pleased to be working with LOWE and to have found a solution for the temporary use of the site whilst we forge ahead with our plans to convert Moorside to almshouses. This site will enable us to build more first-class affordable accommodation for older people with, where needed, the brilliant care and support for which we are known.”

The property guardians at Moorside will keep the property secure and provide a deterrent for anti-social behaviour whilst St John’s work through their development plans, as well as adding a sense of community to the area. Establishing a sense of community is an essential part of LOWE guardianship; we recruit socially responsible and professional individuals who contribute to the surrounding community and stimulate local economies, and we have a strict vetting process for applicants in place to achieve this.
