Last week, a determined team from LOWE embarked on the formidable National Three Peaks Challenge to raise vital funds for Young Lewisham Project, a truly remarkable local charity that makes a profound difference in the lives of young people across South London. Knowing that we were supporting the incredible impact YLP has motivated us through every single step of this enormous undertaking.
We anticipated a difficult journey, but the reality proved even tougher than we imagined. Across 23 miles of hiking and over 3,000 metres of ascent across three nations, our team battled illness, injury, and serious sleep deprivation. Each mountain’s rugged terrain tested our limits, yet the team’s unwavering spirit shone through every single ascent.
Every team member faced their own personal challenge, displaying incredible grit and resilience. We powered up Ben Nevis in 5 hours, then tackled Scafell Pike in 3.5 hours, before the final ascent of Snowdon in 4.5 hours.
Our final time clocked in at 25 hours and 40 minutes. While we didn’t quite hit our 24-hour target, it was an incredibly close and remarkable effort, especially considering the school holiday traffic we encountered! Our exceptional driver (without whom this challenge would have been impossible) did an incredible job, tirelessly driving through the night to safely shepherd us between mountains.
This intense journey was team bonding on a whole new level. Spending over 44 hours together in the confines of the van broke down barriers, forged stronger friendships, and left us all better for the experience.
We still have a little way to go to hit our donation target for the Young Lewisham Project, and we’re keeping our fundraising page open for a short while longer.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a huge difference to the amazing work done by YLP.
